"Brolateral Damage" is the fourteenth episode of the second season (and sixty-sixth episode overall) of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It premiered on October 10, 2014.

Synopsis[]

Randy goes undercover to infiltrate Bash’s inner circle so he can discover the secret behind McFist’s next Ninja-destroying plan.

Plot[]

Ninja struggles fighting against McFist and Viceroy's Tyranobot, until the Tyranobot runs out of fuel, thanks to McFist having used it earlier. However, Ninja overhears McFist mentioning something called "Operation B. B. D.", and begins to overthink about what this operation is about. Randy overthinks about it so often, he even writes the three initials all over he and Howard's essay.

Upon watching how Bash describes McFist bothering him with "bathroom business", Randy believes he can get intel on Operation B.B.D. if he can sneak into Bash's home's bathroom. After the Nomicon shloomps Randy in, it gives Randy the lesson of "The mask worn too long becomes the face" by demonstrating how a masked doodle ninja unable to remove their mask which they have worn too long to infiltrate into a group of mohawk people. However, as usual Randy misinterprets the lesson, this time thinking he should be encouraged to infiltrate into Bash's clique. As soon as he is vloomped out of the Nomicon, he lets Howard shave his hair into a mohawk, even though it is too late for him to backpedal.

After breaking the rules twice with his mohawk and by running in the hallway, Randy gets accepted by Bash as a "mean bro", giving him the chance to enter Bash's bedroom after school, where Bash enthuses his own love for minibikes. By eavesdropping through the bathroom's vent, Randy learns that his two enemies Viceroy and McFist are launching the operation on Friday, but gets scolded by Bash for eating the bathroom sandwich. But the longer Randy infiltrates Bash's bro circle, the meaner he is to Howard, firstly by ruining Howard's opulent rectangle pizza lunch. More eavesdropping later about the operation being at the school on Friday, Randy further gets too immersed into his mean persona by spraying water all over Howard at the drinking fountain.

For Viceroy and McFist, they have calculated everything to ensure the operation goes on swimmingly. As for Howard, he slams Randy's hair into a locker to prevent the latter from continuing his mean bro antics, before heading with the other students to join a non-school related assembly hosted by McFist. But with the Ninja having overthought the context and hijacked the truck with Bash's reward, which not only delays the truck, but Howard's suspicion of Randy/Ninja having overthought everything is also confirmed when he deduces that B.B.D. means Bash's Big Day for Bash to get a minibike for getting a B from Mr. Bannister in English class to stop talking. With the minibike being destroyed by Tengu Fireball, Bash is devastated enough to be stanked by the Sorcerer into a monster.

Infuriated, the furious monster Bash channels his rage at Ninja with his brute prowess. This is when Ninja realizes that he has worn the mask of being a mean person for too long, that he has hurt two people at once, which are both Howard and Bash. To make amends with Bash, Ninja uses Art of Healing to repair the minibike, just in time to calm and destank Bash. The Sorcerer's plan is once again foiled by the Ninja, and he gets so mad about his own failure, his bath towel drops, much to the horror of his rat.

Afterwards, Randy and Howard make up, as the former, who has left Bash's clique, appeases Howard with a bathroom burrito. Randy remorsefully apologizes to his best friend, who has already forgiven him after enjoying the burrito. Howard then wonders how Randy got his hair off the locker, to which Randy shows Howard that he actually got his remaining hair ripped off forcibly during the escape from the slammed locker. As Bash crashes his minibike outside of the school, both Randy and Howard laugh things off as they have repaired their friendship, and Howard ends the episode with a thumbs up and a wink.

Trivia[]

  • The title is a pun on the military term collateral damage, which means damage to things that are incidental to the intended target.

  • Bash's room is revealed with his poster minibike.
  • Bash Johnson gets stanked for the first time.
    • He is also revealed to have a minibike obsession, and a habit of eating bathroom snacks in this episode.
  • It is revealed that the Art of Healing can heal machines.
  • The robot that appeared in the pilot, Tyranobot, was later reworked and redesigned by Aaron Alexovich to appear in this episode.
  • Howard breaks the fourth wall by winking and having a thumbs up at the viewers at the end of the episode.
    • He is also the second character to break the fourth wall in the series.
